Two victims of deadly plane crash in Queen Anne’s County, Md., identified
Version 0 of 1. Authorities have identified two people who were killed Tuesday after the single-engine plane they were riding in crashed near the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. Richard Hess, 63, and his friend Janet Metz, 56, died at the scene. They are both from Ellicott City, Md. Officials with the Maryland State Police said Hess was the pilot of the small plane, and Metz was a passenger. The plane, a red and white Van’s RV-12, crashed just before 1 p.m. in a field near Route 8 and eastbound Route 50 in Stevensville, in Queen Anne’s County. The plane burst into flames, officials said. Authorities said on Tuesday that they did not know whether the aircraft was taking off from nearby Bay Bridge Airport or whether it was landing there. The plane was a rental. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash. Victoria St. Martin contributed to this report. |
