A woman was found stabbed Friday morning inside a residence in Northwest Washington and later died, according to D.C. police. Officers discovered the woman about 6:10 a.m. in the 4000 block of Tunlaw Road NW, adjacent to Glover Archibald Park. She was pronounced dead at an area hospital. Dustin Sternbeck, the department’s chief spokesman, said a person of interest has been detained and was being questioned Friday morning. Sternbeck said the person is being cooperative and is believed to be the one who called 911.
While investigating the death, police said they found a suspicious package. The building was evacuated and Tunlaw Road was closed in both directions from 39th Street to 42nd Street. Officers discovered the woman about 6:10 a.m. in an apartment in a building in the 4000 block of Tunlaw Road NW, adjacent to Glover Archibald Park.
The street is flanked by condominiums and is about five blocks off Massachusetts Avenue and near the U.S. Naval Observatory. The woman was pronounced dead at an area hospital. Her age and name have not yet been released.
No other details, including the name and age of the victim, were immediately made public. While investigating the death, police said someone called in a bomb threat to the building and it was evacuated. Police had initially described the threat as a suspicious package. Sternbeck said police were still searching the building at 9:30 a.m. but had found no explosive device.
Tunlaw Road was closed in both directions from 39th Street NW to 42nd Street NW.
