Version 0 of 1.

A 13-year-old boy has been arrested after being accused of stabbing his 11-year-old ex-girlfriend to death.

Diana Lizeth Ramirez Estrada was found dead at her family home in Monclova, in the northern state of Coahulia, Mexico, by her mother, Blanca Delia Estrada Muñoz.

Ms Munoz told local news website Periodi Correo her daughter was “beaten, bathed in blood and [had] no vital signs".

She is thought to have been stabbed “on more than 10 occasions”, according to Van Guardia.

The boy - who the Independent has not identified - was reportedly arrested at his home after attempting to change out of his bloodied clothes.

Local media website Elheraldo reported he admitted “ending the life of Diana” after he was arrested.

The boy reportedly became enraged after hearing Diana had a new boyfriend and had previously sent threatening text messages to her.

Two days after the murder took place, the boy was transferred from police cells to a child welfare centre, reported the Daily Record.

The move has led to Ms Munoz organising a march in protest. She has set up a Facebook page asking for others to join her.

The boy’s lawyer, Santos Vazquez Estrada, said that as the boy was under the criminal age of responsibility, he cannot be locked up as a precautionary measure or after being sentenced if he is found guilty.

“Adolescents, who are those under 18 but older than 12, are protected and those under 12 are not even subjected to a criminal investigation," he said.

“This boy has all the rights of an adult person as well as the rights or special guarantees because he’s a minor.”

Diana’s funeral took place on Friday. A post-mortem revealed she had died from secondary hypovolemic shock due to injuries caused by a sharp object.
