Aled Evans, 29, from Dolgellau was airlifted to hospital in Bangor following his fall on Wednesday. He has since been transferred to The Walton Centre for neurology and neurosurgery at Liverpool. The Health and Safety Executive and North Wales Police are investigating. His friend Selwyn Goldsworthy said people in the town felt "gutted". Mr Goldworthy, who is also the secretary of Dolgellau rugby club, said Mr Evans had played rugby for Dolgellau, Aberystwyth and was due to play as flanker for Chester rugby club this weekend in their EDF Intermediate Cup final against Birkenhead Park at Twickenham. He is also a keen motorcyclist taking part in scrambling competitions. "In a small town like Dolgellau everyone knows everyone else," said Mr Goldsworthy. "He really is a lovely lad and everybody likes him. "Everyone at the club is gutted at what has happened," he added. A spokesman for the Health and Safety Executive said: "We have been informed about the incident and we are carrying out a joint investigation with the North Wales Police." No-one at the Walton Centre could comment on Mr Evans's condition. "We have had a number of inquiries about this gentleman but we are unable to comment on any patient's condition because of confidentiality," said a spokesman. |
