Video depicting the blast shows a shockwave sent off from the plant, causing a tremor in the town equivalent of a 2.1 magnitude earthquake. West mayor Tommy Muska compared the blast to a nuclear explosion.

“We're neighbors too. We're American too, we stand with you and we do not forget,” said Mr Obama. “We give thanks for the courage and the compassion and incredible grace of the people of West.”
