A newborn foal stuck in mud was rescued by firefighters before being cleaned with a fire engine hose.

The foal was reported trapped by its owner at Tilbury Fort in Essex on Friday afternoon. When it was pulled free it was covered in thick mud.

ADO Martin Pullen, of Orsett Fire Station, said: "Crews assisted the foal from the mud and washed it down, then reunited with its mother.

"Both animals were then reunited with their happy owner."
