Serious crash as two diggers hit cars near Rutherglen Man dies after crash involving digger near Rutherglen

Emergency services are at the scene of a "very serious" road accident after two diggers reportedly collided with cars on the outskirts of Glasgow. A man has died after a crash involving a car and a heavy agricultural vehicle which was towing a digger.
Police and paramedics arrived in Fernhill Road, between Castlemilk and Fernhill, at 11:05. The road is closed and diversions are in place. The incident, which also involved five other cars and a bus, happened in Fernhill Road on the outskirts of Glasgow at 11:05.
Pictures from the scene show at least two cars caught under the diggers. A third car is on a grass verge. The car driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The male driver of the agricultural vehicle is in a serious condition in hospital.
Police Scotland said early indications were the incident was "very serious". The road remains closed and police have appealed for witnesses.
BBC reporter John McManus, who is at the scene, said it appeared that a mechanical digger had been involved. Sgt Alison McAuley, of Police Scotland, said: "An extensive recovery operation, which is expected to last for several more hours, is currently underway and Fernhill Road is closed with local diversions in place.
He said that police had erected a tarpaulin sheet around the scene. "I would appeal to anyone who witnessed what happened to contact officers."
