Woman falls from motorway bridge

Two lanes of the M60 have been closed after motorists saw a woman fall onto the carriageway from a motorway bridge.

The woman fell from a bridge near junction one at Stockport, Greater Manchester, on Saturday morning.

She was taken to Stepping Hill Hospital to be treated for serious injuries and is described as critically ill. Several people are being treated for shock.

Traffic is down to one lane which is causing delays and long tailbacks for drivers.

The two lanes are expected to remain closed until midday and motorists are being advised to take alternative routes wherever possible.

Anyone who may have seen the incident is asked to contact police.
