Witnesses sought in murder probe

The victims were found at the Harbour Lodge Hostel in Monkwearmouth, Sunderland, on Friday following a tip-off from a member of the public. Officers are carrying out door-to-door inquiries in the area and want to speak to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the North Bridge Street area. Two men continue to be questioned on suspicion of murder. A post-mortem examination is being carried on Saturday. Forensic examination Police believe they have established the identity of the two men, but will not release details until relatives have been informed. The hostel has been cordoned off and is likely to remain sealed off for some time. Speaking on Saturday, Det Ch Insp Roger Ford said: "We need to establish the sequence of events which led to these men being found dead. At this stage we do not believe this was a random attack. "We need to speak to anyone who was in the Harbour Lodge area between 1430 BST and 1500 BST yesterday who saw anything suspicious or who may have any information which could assist this investigation." |
