The disappearance of an RSPCA inspector during a violent storm that battered the Cornish coast is to be investigated by the Health and Safety Executive. | |
Mike Reid, 54, went to save stranded gannets at Porthchapel Beach near Penzance, during Storm Imogen on 7 February. | |
He was later reported missing by his wife and has not been seen since. | |
The Executive said it could not confirm the nature or the expected duration of the investigation. | |

The RSPCA said: "We confirm that because our Inspector Mike Reid disappeared whilst on duty at work, the HSE is investigating his disappearance. | |
"The RSPCA is providing assistance to the HSE and all other investigations." | |
Hundreds of people attended a service at Truro Cathedral in April in tribute to Mr Reid. |
