(35 minutes later) | |
Three people including a French police officer have been killed after a hostage situation in a Paris suburb.
A spokesman for France’s interior minister said a police officer, his wife and their attacker had been killed after a stabbing at the officer’s home outside Paris. The spokesman, Pierre-Henry Brandet, said on Monday night that police had managed to rescue a child from the scene.
A police source said officers had responded to a hostage situation at a house in Magnanville, about 35 miles (55km) west of the French capital.
Le Parisien reported that the suspect was the victim’s neighbour. Authorities said they had tried to negotiate with the suspect, but negotiations failed and they then stormed the house.
Police said the suspect was killed, and they then found a woman dead inside the house but were able to rescue the son safely.
