French policeman stabbed to death outside his home French police officer among three killed near Paris after hostage situation
(35 minutes later)
A French police officer was stabbed to death on Monday in front of his home in a Paris suburb by a man who then holed up in the house, a police source said. Three people including a French police officer have been killed after a hostage situation in a Paris suburb.
Elite police have surrounded the residence in Magnanville, north-west of the French capital, the source said. A spokesman for France’s interior minister said a police officer, his wife and their attacker had been killed after a stabbing at the officer’s home outside Paris. The spokesman, Pierre-Henry Brandet, said on Monday night that police had managed to rescue a child from the scene.
It was not immediately clear if the suspect was holding any hostages. A police source said officers had responded to a hostage situation at a house in Magnanville, about 35 miles (55km) west of the French capital.
Le Parisien reported that the suspect was the victim’s neighbour. Authorities said they had tried to negotiate with the suspect, but negotiations failed and they then stormed the house.
Police said the suspect was killed, and they then found a woman dead inside the house but were able to rescue the son safely.
