Concerns have been raised that a County Fermanagh school may not be rebuilt after a planning application was withdrawn.

The £15m project for Devenish College is on hold while the Western Education Board revises the plans.

Work had been due to begin later this year at a site in Enniskillen.

The Western Board has said a full planning application would be lodged once consultants for the project have been appointed.

Board of Governors chairman Alec Baird said Education Minister Caitríona Ruane, the Department of Education and the Western Board would be held to account over the school's future.

Devenish College was formed in 2004 by the amalgamation of the former Duke of Westminster High School with Enniskillen High School.

Ulster Unionist MLA Tom Elliott said he understood the decision "is due to a technicality".

"It is a simply outrageous situation, and the parents and children linked to Devenish College most certainly do not deserve to be treated in such a despicable manner," he said.
