Version 0 of 1.

Singer Amy Winehouse has spent the night in custody after being arrested on suspicion of assault.

The 24-year-old was held after arriving at a police station in central London to be questioned about an incident said to have occurred on Wednesday.

A 38-year-old man had claimed he was assaulted by a woman in the Chalk Farm area of north London, police said.

Police said Winehouse had been "in no fit state" to be questioned when she arrived, and she was kept in the cells.

Meanwhile on Friday the singer's husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, appeared at Snaresbrook Crown Court in east London, where a provisional trial date was set for him to face charges of assault and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

The 25-year-old, who married Winehouse last May, has denied the allegations and is due to stand trial from 2 June.
