The meeting, being described by sources as "a catch up opportunity", is being held in Gordon Brown's office at the House of Commons. The meeting, in the House of Commons, lasted about 20 minutes.
Mr Salmond praised the co-operation between the administrations in Edinburgh and London. A Downing Street spokesman said they discussed the steps being taken to resolve the dispute.
He said there was enough fuel for everyone who needed it in Scotland. The 48-hour stoppage at the refinery had disrupted fuel supplies and brought almost half of the UK's North Sea oil production to a halt.
