A bus has crashed into the front of a bank on a busy high street, injuring three people, one seriously. | |
An eyewitness said there were two people trapped under the vehicle which has hit a Halifax branch on Northgate in Darlington just before 11:00 BST. | |
Durham Police said they cannot confirm reports one person has died. | |
The North East Ambulance Service has three crews at the scene, including a hazardous area response team, trauma paramedics and a helicopter. | |

John Dodsworth said: "It's all gone crazy in town. Someone said a lady was under the bus." | |
A force spokesman said: "The bus left the road - we don't know why - and has crashed into a Halifax." | |
The ambulance service said three casualties had been treated - one of them serious - and paramedics were tending to the "walking wounded". | |
"We have sent the air ambulance, three double-crewed ambulances and a hazardous area rapid response team. Two patients have left for hospital," a spokeswoman added. | |
County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue said it could not confirm if the injured people were pedestrians or bus passengers. | |
Shops near to the crash, between the Northgate and Crown Street junctions, have been closed and police officers are moving bystanders. | |
A road closure is in place from St. Cuthbert's Way roundabout to Crown Street. A pedestrian cordon is also in force from Marks and Spencer to the pedestrian zone at the top of Crown Street. |
