'Dangerous profession'
Aberdaron-born Mr Jones has two grown-up children.
The grandfather returned to Gwynedd a few years ago after running a building business in the Cheadle area of Manchester.
Glyn Roberts the chairman of the Lleyn Fishing Association said: "This is very sad for the family who live locally.
"These things happen, and you read about them but when they happen closer to home people feel it keenly.
"I was chatting to Maldwyn and his brother on Sunday and it is difficult to believe that something like this can happen so quickly."
Mr Roberts said that fishermen accepted that fishing could be a dangerous occupation.
"Everyone accepts that it is a dangerous profession.
"If there is a lesson to be learned it it that we should wear a life jacket.
"We've all been there and done without, but everybody ought to seriously think about wearing life jackets.
"In this day and age there are some very modern convenient things to wear," he added.

The search resumed at first light on Tuesday with coastguard cliff rescuers and RNLI volunteers combing the coastline.
