Full Glastonbury line-up revealed Glastonbury picks 'diverse' bill
(about 2 hours later)
The full line-up of musicians to perform at the Glastonbury festival has been revealed. The Raconteurs, Crowded House, Mark Ronson and The Fratellis are among the acts who have been confirmed to play this year's Glastonbury Festival.
The Kings of Leon, The Raconteurs and Crowded House will be among the bands taking the top slots on the Pyramid Stage during June's three-day event. The full line-up has been revealed a day after details were leaked on an internet forum.
Among the other acts listed are Mark Ronson, Panic At The Disco, Massive Attack and Groove Armada. They will join previously announced headliners Jay-Z, The Verve and Kings of Leon at the event from 27-29 June.
The list was revealed a day after details were leaked on an internet festivals forum. Other acts range from Shakin' Stevens to The Editors. "It is our most diverse line-up," organiser Emily Eavis said.
The Fratellis, KT Tunstall, James Blunt, Shakin' Stevens, The Verve and Goldfrapp are among the other big acts confirmed to play on the largest stage at the festival. Panic At The Disco, Massive Attack, Groove Armada and The Fratellis will play at the festival in Somerset, now in its 38th year.
Shakin' Stevens is a surprise addition to the line-up Goldfrapp, Manu Chao, The Feeling and The Gossip will perform on the main Pyramid Stage during the weekend.
On the second Other Stage The Enemy, Massive Attack, Duffy, Hot Chip and Groove Armada will perform. Shakin' Stevens will play on the main stage on the Saturday
They will be joined by singer-songwriters James Blunt, John Mayer, KT Tunstall and Gilbert O'Sullivan.
"The Pyramid Stage throughout our history has always represented a total cross-section of big popular bands," Ms Eavis told the BBC. "We've never ever been led by what we think is fashionable."
The second Other Stage will host acts including Hot Chip, Duffy, Elbow and The Hoosiers.
Headlining the John Peel Stage will be Jamie T and Biffy Clyro.Headlining the John Peel Stage will be Jamie T and Biffy Clyro.
Glastonbury organiser Emily Eavis did not rule out a last-minute appearance by Amy Winehouse in one of the vacant slots. Ms Eavis was unable to comment on the likelihood of Amy Winehouse appearing, while Neil Diamond had previously been mooted but does not appear on the current line-up.
She also defended the slow ticket sales, saying she was delighted to have sold 100,000 on the first day. There are still a few names to be announced, Ms Eavis said, promising some surprises "in the far-flung corners of the site".
More than 150,000 people attended the event last year, when Arctic Monkeys and The Who were headline acts. For a while we haven't had a year where there hasn't been a ticket scramble and I think what we end up with is proper Glastonbury-lovers Emily Eavis
This year, US rapper Jay-Z is to headline this summer event, leading to speculation that a break from the festival's guitar music roots had contributed to the slow ticket sales. There are still "a few" of the 137,500 tickets on sale, she said. Unlike in recent years, tickets did not sell out within hours.
Jay-Z will headline Glastonbury's Pyramid Stage on the Saturday night Ms Eavis said that was down to bad weather at recent festivals, rather than this year's choice of headliners - and that the slower ticket sales could be good for the event.
But Ms Eavis said the festival, which began in 1970, had a long history of attracting rap artists. "For a while we haven't had a year where there hasn't been a ticket scramble and I think what we end up with is proper Glastonbury-lovers," she said.
She said on Tuesday that some details on the leaked line-up had been "wrong". "A lot of those people haven't been able to come over the last few years because of the nightmare to get tickets, so in a way we've ended up with a distilled Glastonbury crowd and I genuinely think they will make it phenomenal this year.
She blamed a printing firm mole for leaking details of acts performing on the festival's main three stages. "Maybe we need that, the real Glastonbury audience, rather than a different crowd."
A photograph of a page from Q magazine - one of the festival's partners - was posted on the eFestivals website forum.
"I'm not really angry about it - it is normal for bits and bobs to come out," she said.
The official line-up is listed on websites of Q and The Guardian, another festival partner.
