Two people were arrested near the US Capitol building following a security lockdown at the complex. Three people were arrested near the US Capitol building on Tuesday following reports of an armed suspect in the area.
Police have lifted the lockdown which extends to all buildings including the Visitor’s Center on Tuesday, ABC 7 News reports. Police said the suspects led them on a high-speed chase before their vehicle crashed, NBC Washington reports. Police also recovered a “mini-machine” gun and multiple rounds of ammunition at the scene.
Senator Tammy Baldwin, a Democrat from Wisconsin , is still talking on the floor and the House is continuing their votes as planned, Politico reports. US Capitol Police warned occupants inside the building of the ongoing pursuit, and issued a lockdown that lasted for 20 minutes. Speeches continued on the House floor and tourists remained in the visitors’ center.
The lockdown is the second this week. No entry or exit is being permitted due to reports of a man with a gun near the complex. Senator Tammy Baldwin, a Democrat from Wisconsin , continued speaking on the floor as planned, Politico reports.
