Ms Southwell was a riding instructor and a keen artist.
Phil Hargreaves, Chairman of Hornsea Art Society, said: "Fiona Southwell was a really nice lady, always very friendly. She had been a regular exhibitor at Hornsea Art Society's annual exhibition for the last 10 years.
"She'll be sadly missed - everyone's in absolute shock."
Mr Hargreaves said Ms Southwell was an accomplished painter, particularly of horses.
"She was a really good animal painter, especially horses but also dogs," he said.
"She was a really accomplished artist and you could tell she had a real affinity with horses."
