More than 20 people have reportedly been injured in an attack by a man with an axe on a train in Germany.  A number of people have reportedly been injured in an attack by a man with an axe on a train in Germany. 
The attack is understood to have taken place in Würzburg-Heidingsfeld, according to local media.  The attacks took place when the train was near the city of Würzburg, according to local media. 
The Main Post newspaper reported that three people had been seriously hurt, one slightly injured and 14 others were left suffering from shock. Other media outlets put the number of injured at between 15 and 21.
There were unconfirmed reports that police had shot a man believed to be the attacker as he tried to run from the train, according to the br24.de website.
It was not clear if he had been injured or killed.
Trains running between Würzburg and Ochsenfurt were cancelled.
