Dissident group blamed for murder

The Independent Monitoring Commission has blamed a dissident republican group for the murder of Strabane man Andrew Burns in February.

The body, which reports on paramilitary activity, said Strabane members of Oglaigh na h'Eireann were "likely to have been responsible" for his murder.

It also reported that the 27-year-old had been a member of the group.

Mr Burns' body was found with gun shot wounds near a church in Doneyloop in County Donegal.

The IMC also linked the group to a failed pipe bomb attack on Strabane police station in December 2007.

It also reported that Real IRA was behind two attempts to murder off-duty policemen in Londonderry and Dungannon.
