Munich shooting: Three suspected shooters at large following 'multiple deaths' at OEZ German shopping centre Munich shooting: Footage appears to show gunman firing on people outside OEZ German shopping centre
(about 7 hours later)
"Multiple deaths" have been reported after shots were fired at a shopping centre in German city Munich. A gunman went on a "rampage" at shopping centre in the German city of Munich on Friday, killing at least nine and injuring 21.
Amid conflicting reports, police have reportedly told Germany's DPA news agency "we expect multiple deaths" in the shooting at the OEZ centre. However, the number of fatalities remains unclear. Police say they believe the gunman to have been an 18-year-old Iranian from the city, after earlier indications pointed to up to three perpetrators. The man, so far unnamed, is thought to have killed himself after fleeing the scene.
In a statement police have said they are investigating reports that at least three gunmen were involved. No arrests have been made and the suspects remain at large. A video broadcast on social media purportedly shows a man firing on innocent passers-by outside the OEZ or Olympic Park shopping centre on Friday evening. This has not been verified.
Sources have said a second shooting may ahave taken place at a metro station nearby, however this remains unverified. A second unverified video seems to show a gunman on a rooftop car park in shouted conversation with onlookers. "Ich bin Deutscher!" he shouts at one point.
A major police operation is underway in the area. Further videos posted on social media by eyewitnesses appear to show people fleeing the scene.
The shopping centre has been evacuated and the surrounding area is sealed off.
Shop staff members told Reuters that they remain inside and are still hiding.
