Florida shooting: two dead outside Fort Myers nightclub

A shooting outside a nightclub in Fort Myers, Florida, has left two dead and at least 14 injured, according to police cited in local media reports.

NBC 2 reported that gunfire broke out in the car park of the Club Blu Bar and Grill at about 12.30am local time. Witnesses told media there had been an argument outside the club before the shooting. A motive is still not known.

Police said at least one person had been detained and that officers had been deployed to two other scenes connected to the shooting.

The Fort Myers police department and Lee County sheriff’s office were “actively canvassing the area looking for other persons who may be involved in this incident”, authorities said in a statement.

The club was reportedly hosting an event for teenagers.

The shooting comes a month after a massacre at a nightclub in Orlando, in which a lone gunman killed 49 people in the deadliest mass shooting in US history.
