An investigation has begun after a gunman was killed during a shoot-out with police in south-west London. An inquiry has begun after a gunman was killed following a five-hour armed stand-off in south-west London.
The man fired three times at police officers at a property in Markham Square, near King's Road, Chelsea, on Tuesday night. The 32-year-old man died after earlier exchanging shots with police in Markham Square, Chelsea.
Police returned fire, and at about 2145 BST four explosions, thought to be stun grenades, were heard. Officers were called to the area near King's Road on Tuesday after reports a gun was fired from a house towards another home in the square.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission confirmed it would be investigating the fatal shooting. Armed police fired back when they came under attack and the area nearby was sealed off as the siege began.
The gunman first shot at police in Chelsea as officers investigated an incident where shots were fired into a child's bedroom. However, the incident was brought to an end when police stormed the house after four explosions were heard.
The gunman began shooting at 1700 BST, fired again at 2100 BST and then at about 2130 BST. On all occasions officers returned fire. The Independent Police Complaints Commission is examining the incident.
A spokesman for the IPCC said: "The IPCC will independently investigate the fatal shooting of a man in the Kings Road area of Chelsea. An IPCC spokesman said: "The IPCC is independently investigating the fatal shooting of a 32-year-old man in Markham Square.
"At 9.50pm the Metropolitan Police Service referred the incident to the IPCC." "It would appear there were exchanges of fire during the course of the evening.

"Residents will be allowed back into their premises in due course." "He was taken outside and given first aid and an ambulance called. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing the sky light up with green flashes at the same time as the explosions. "Three IPCC investigators went to the scene which has been preserved."
Police responded initially after people reported gun shots being fired near King's Road. The gunman is expected to be identified following a post-mortem examination.
The area remains cordoned-off and surrounding homes and businesses were evacuated.
During the stand-off, the gunman fired three times - first at about 1700 BST, then again at 2100 BST and then at about 2130 BST. Officers returned fire on each occasion.

A woman told the BBC she called the police after the gunman fired three shots into her child's bedroom with a shotgun for "no reason". At about 2145 BST, eyewitnesses reported seeing the sky light up with green flashes at the same time as the four explosions, which were thought to be stun grenades.
Metropolitan Police Commander Ali Dizaei said the gunman had made no demands.
Earlier a woman told the BBC she called the police after the gunman fired three shots into her child's bedroom with a shotgun for "no reason".
