Version 0 of 1.

A man who waved a saw in a woman's face in a row over barking dogs has been warned by a magistrate to avoid drinking alcohol.

Kevin Conaghan, 34, from Magazine Street in Londonderry, appeared at the city's magistrates court on Wednesday.

He admitted taking the saw from his flat on Tuesday evening and confronting several neighbours with the weapon.

He told police he was unable to sleep because of his neighbour's barking dogs, but later apologised.

Defence solicitor Paddy McDermott said Conaghan just wanted to "vent his spleen on his neighbours", and described the incident as "a storm in a tea cup".

Resident Magistrate Barney McElholm ordered Conaghan to stay off alcohol and to avoid the Shipquay Street area of the city centre.

He was released on his own bail of £500 to appear again on 19 May.
