On 19 August, Rudy Bruynius, his wife Lisinda and their two-year-old daughter Mckayla were swept out to sea by a large wave at Fistral beach in Cornwall – while Julie Walker, 37, and her son Lucas, six, from Aberdeen, died a day later after getting into difficulties in the water off the city’s beach.
On Camber Sands on 24 August, five young people died and just days later a man died while scuba diving with his partner’s 12-year-old daughter near St Austell, Cornwall.
