(You may have noticed the customary early-warning sign: For days, subway cars on downtown trains have been filled with teenage models, all 5-foot-10 and taller, making their casting rounds, a tower of giraffes in their natural habitat.)(You may have noticed the customary early-warning sign: For days, subway cars on downtown trains have been filled with teenage models, all 5-foot-10 and taller, making their casting rounds, a tower of giraffes in their natural habitat.)

Here’s a look at what’s on deck today. Here’s a look at what’s on deck today.
• Arriving to kick off fashion week with a blaze of controversy (how else?) is Kanye West, who will show the new collection from his Yeezy line. Mr. West made waves this weekend when he tweeted an open casting call for the show, requesting “multiracial women only.” Outrage followed; lines for the casting formed all the same. • Tom Ford, who splits his time between fashion and filmmaking (his new movie “Nocturnal Animals” just premiered at the Venice Film Festival), arrives in New York to show his fall collection, rather than the spring 2017 collections most of his peers are presenting. (It will be available in his stores and online on Friday.) Mr. Ford’s recent shows have had all the flash of movie premieres, and this one should be no exception: It comes with a seated dinner and a much-reduced guest list still including, in all likelihood, many of his celebrity friends. (Further reading: When Mr. Ford decided to sit out the last runway season, and show fall clothes in — gasp! — the fall.)• Tom Ford, who splits his time between fashion and filmmaking (his new movie “Nocturnal Animals” just premiered at the Venice Film Festival), arrives in New York to show his fall collection, rather than the spring 2017 collections most of his peers are presenting. • Among the rest of the day’s shows, Rachel Comey is a highlight, celebrating her 15th anniversary in business. Ms. Comey, a “Rosie the Riveter of modern design” (as the Critical Shopper for The New York Times once called her) has made a career of wringing magic from unlikely elements like wooden clogs.• Among the rest of the day’s shows, Rachel Comey is a highlight, celebrating her 15th anniversary in business. • In the evening, the upstart wildlings of VFiles, a shop-and-online-platform-turned-talent-incubator, hold its show this evening. This season spotlights five young labels — Alessandro Trincone, Ground-Zero, Rushemy Botter, Sanchez-Kane and Song Seoyoon — selected by VFiles and a panel of expert mentors including Naomi Campbell, the stylist Mel Ottenberg and the rapper Young Thug. Mr. Thug (real name: Jeffrey Lamar Williams) has already worn a Trincone creation on the cover of his latest album. • Off the runway, there are parties uptown and parties downtown, and Ubers frantically traversing the two. Cartier celebrates the reopening of its new, gussied-up Fifth Avenue maison with a lavish event. Farther south, Kendall and Kylie (Jenner, though if you have to ask, you’re probably not ready for Fashion Week prime time) toast their new Kendall & Kylie collection. The organizers promise an “interactive” see-now, buy-now event, open to the public at 8 p.m. at Samsung 837, but interacting with the spokesmodels themselves seems very unlikely.
