New York Fashion Week, Day 2: What You Need to Know
http://www.nytimes.com/2016/09/08/fashion/new-york-fashion-week-day-2-what-you-need-to-know.html Version 0 of 1. Barely a day has gone by at New York Fashion Week, and already the tribes have shlepped to Roosevelt Island, the site of Wednesday’s Kanye West Yeezy show, and then back to Manhattan and the recently closed Four Seasons for a star-studded Tom Ford show. But the schedule is just ramping up. Here’s a look at what’s on today. • Indie labels aplenty. From the fledgling Brock Collection to the Creature double feature (the CFDA-award winning Creatures of the Wind and Creatures of Comfort), today’s a good day for the little guy. • The return of Thakoon. Thakoon Panichgul, whom you may remember as a breakout star of the Vogue documentary “The September Issue,” way back in 2009, took last season off from showing. Now he’s back, with new backers and a brand-new store. He is showing in Brooklyn, but the hardiest won’t be dissuaded. (Since we last checked in on the fashion week diaspora and its creep into Brooklyn, the spread has only grown wider.) • The pop star’s favorite. Adam Selman is Rihanna’s longtime go-to guy, the man who designed the famously transparent gown she wore to accept her CFDA Fashion Icon award and many of her stage outfits over the years. (She wore his pieces for one of her performances at the MTV VMAs last month.) He’ll show his new collection this evening; the Bad Gal, recently in town promoting her Fenty collection with Puma, may even show up. • The fashion media celebrates its favorite thing (itself) at the Daily Front Row Fashion Media Awards. Saks Fifth Avenue previews its new 86,000-square-foot downtown store at Brookfield Place with a cocktail party before its official opening tomorrow. And Jimmy Choo toasts its 20th anniversary at a party hosted by a passel of models, with a performance by Mary J. Blige. And in case you missed it: • Kanye West and Tom Ford held their shows yesterday. Read Vanessa Friedman’s review here. Of Mr. West’s collection, she writes “For a man known for his rambling, far-reaching riffs, in his 4th fashion season, it turned out Mr. West had nothing to say.” • New York Fashion Week: An Oral History. • Vanessa Friedman on this crazy, mixed-up, (maybe) very good fashion season. • Wintour’s with her. Anna Wintour, the editor of Vogue, and her co-hosts held a fund-raiser/fashion show/T-shirt sale for Hillary Clinton and Democratic candidates nationwide that was the most jam-packed party on the first night of NYFW. |
