Donald Trump will release “very, very specific” results of a physical examination soon, the Republican presidential candidate said on Monday, a day after the Democratic nominee, Hillary Clinton, was revealed to have pneumonia, writes the Guardian’s Martin Pengelly:
“This last week I took a physical and I’ll be releasing when the numbers come in,” Trump said in an interview with Fox News.
Trump has so far released only a short letter from his personal physician, which the doctor in question subsequently said had been rushed. Clinton last year released a longer doctor’s note, written by the same physician who on Sunday released a statement saying that the nominee had been diagnosed with pneumonia on Friday.
“I hope she gets well soon,” Trump said. “I really don’t know what’s going on. Like you, I say what I see. [Clinton’s] coughing fit was a week ago” – at a Labor Day rally in Cleveland – “so that was pneumonia also, I think it would have been, so something’s going on. I hope she gets well and gets back on the trail and we’ll be seeing her at the debate.”

Trump ad hits Clinton for 'depolorables'
A new Trump campaign ad highlights a Hillary Clinton attack on his supporters.
The ad features part of a few lines that Clinton delivered at a Friday fundraiser:
You know, to just be grossly generalistic, you could put half of Trump’s supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables. Right? The racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic – you name it. And unfortunately, there are people like that. And he has lifted them up.
The ad uses the word “you” a lot, inviting the viewer to identify with the person Clinton is impugning.
“Speaking to wealthy donors, Hillary Clinton called tens of millions of Americans “deplorable,” the ad says:
People like you, you and you: deplorable. You know what’s deplorable? Hillary Clinton viciously demonizing hard-working people like you.
What do you think, does it work, for its intended audience, which judging by ad buys are potential Trump supporters in Ohio, Florida, Pennsylvania and North Carolina?
The Trump campaign has lied about former Fox News chief Roger Ailes having a role in the campaign, but the ad, which evokes a siege mentality and seems to distort Clinton’s voice while playing on a sense of victimization and / or wounded justice – the ad feels like Fox.
Meanwhile, speaking of deplorables, elder Trump son Donald Trump Jr celebrated on Instagram at the weekend that he was included in a graphic with the alt-right neo-Nazi mascot Pepe, Sandy Hook and 9/11 conspiracy theorist Alex Jones and others:
A friend sent me this. Apparently I made the cut as one of the Deplorables😂😂😂 All kidding aside I am honored to be grouped with the hard working men and women of this great nation that have supported @realdonaldtrump and know that he can fix the mess created by politicians in Washington. He's fighting for you and won't ever quit. Thanks for your trust! #trump2016 #maga #makeamericagreatagain #basketofdeplorables

Axelrod: Clinton has 'unhealthy penchant for privacy'
Political strategist turned academic David Axelrod, who really made his career by helping Obama beat Hillary Clinton in the 2008 Democratic presidential primary, describes what he sees as the central problem for Clinton, in the current conversation about her health, and before that: an “unhealthy penchant for privacy that repeatedly creates unnecessary problems”:
Antibiotics can take care of pneumonia. What's the cure for an unhealthy penchant for privacy that repeatedly creates unnecessary problems?
If there were an emoticon for “private basement email server,” Axelrod might have used it.
Here’s someone who agrees: Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway:
Whoa. Well said. https://t.co/GeCfN5jKAN
What do you think of the way the Clinton campaign has handled her illness? Meaning their decision not to announce her diagnosis on Friday and then the silence and two statements Sunday? If she had announced she had pneumonia on Friday and not turned up for the 9/11 memorial event... well what does your crystal ball of counterfactuals say?

While Trump said Clinton’s health was “an issue”, he seemed on Monday morning to prefer to attack his rival on different grounds, over her characterization at a fundraiser Friday of half of his supporters as belonging in a “basket of deplorables” – “the racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic, you name it”.While Trump said Clinton’s health was “an issue”, he seemed on Monday morning to prefer to attack his rival on different grounds, over her characterization at a fundraiser Friday of half of his supporters as belonging in a “basket of deplorables” – “the racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic, you name it”.

Trump has not released medical records apart from an absurdly hyperbolic note from a doctor who later admitted he simply had scrawled what he thought Trump would like.
