There is massive police presence in the area of Penn Station in New York City. Officers are responding to reports of shots fired. A man wielding a meat cleaver was shot by a NYPD police officer near Penn Station in New York City. Two policemen were injured in the incident and rushed to a hospital.

Local Pix11 news is also reporting that NYPD officer was injured in an incident that unfolded just before 5 p.m. in Midtown. Sources claim that the officer shot the suspect who had a meat cleaver. The officer suffered a head injury and was taken to Bellevue Hospital. NYPD told RT DCPI is on the scene in Midtown Manhattan, and is yet to report back on how the incident transpired.
“Two officers were injured. They are both stable, and being treated at Bellevue Hospital,” police said. 
NYPD Spokesperson J. Peter Donald confirmed that the suspect had a meat cleaver and was shot by the officers.
He also confirmed that at least one office was injured with the weapon in the attack and is now receiving medical treatment.
NY1 News reports, citing sources, that the suspect hit at least one police officer on the head with a meat cleaver before police opened fire. 
The perpetrator of the attack was also rushed to a hospital in critical condition, Pix 11 News reports. According to ABC 7 News New York, the second officer is being treated for a possible "graze wound."
RT called NYPD for information on the shooting incident and was told “we don’t have any information at the moment.”
