The man was taken to hospital after being treated at the scene by paramedics. Details of his injuries were not released. The man, who sustained shotgun injuries to his back and leg, remains seriously ill in hospital, Nottinghamshire Police said.
Nottinghamshire Police said a "firearm may have been discharged". A 22-year-old man was arrested. Det Supt Rob Griffin believes "two shots were fired". A 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
Extra police patrols Det Supt Griffin added: "We understand a blue Yamaha R6 motorcycle with two occupants, both wearing helmets, parked on Sneinton Boulevard near to the entrance of Sneinton Wood.
A section of Colwick Road between Port Arthur Road and the level crossing remains closed. "The movements of this motorcycle leading up to the time it was parked are of interest to us."
A woodland path between Colwick Road and Sneinton Boulevard is also shut while officers make inquiries. He said there will now be an increased police presence in the area and additional patrols have been planned.
Nottingham City Transport said its Red 44 bus has been diverted along Daleside Road in both directions and not serving Colwick Road or Sneinton Hermitage because of an incident. He added he "would not rule out further arrests".
The diversion is expected to remain in place for most of the day.
Police said there will now be an increased presence in the area and additional patrols have been planned.
