BT Ireland revenue grows to £771m

The revenue of BT's all-Ireland operations have grown to £771m over the year, the company has said.

Strong north and south broadband demand contributed to a 4.3% growth in turnover in its local operations to the end of March.

Over the year revenue hit £20,223m and the pre-tax profit was £2,484m.

BT said that in Ireland new wave revenue driven by broadband, networked IT services and mobility, rose by 13% year on year.

Chris Clark, CEO of BT in Ireland, said it had been a "strong year".

"Our focus on growing new wave business and defending traditional revenues has yielded an exceptional set of results," he said.

In the Republic of Ireland, BT remained the second largest DSL broadband provider with connections growing by 24% to close on 80,000.

The firm said it was Northern Ireland's most popular broadband provider, with connections rising by 23% year on year to 153,000.

BT said there were now more than 330,000 homes and business sites across Northern Ireland using broadband services provided over their network.

The company announced a new deal under which it will sell mobile products and services to small and medium sized companies in the Republic of Ireland following a new partnership agreement with 02 Ireland that will enable BT to bring fixed line, mobile and IT services together for smaller businesses.
