Murdered schoolgirl Tiahleigh Palmer's mother speaks of distress over her death

Murdered Queensland schoolgirl Tiahleigh Palmer’s mother, Cindy Palmer, has spoken about her distress at learning of the murder, incest and perjury charges laid against her daughter’s foster family. She thanked supporters who helped keep attention on the case in the nearly 11 months since the 12-year-old’s disappearance in late October and the subsequent discovery of her body. “I have done the best to keep Tiahleigh’s case in the spotlight and thank supporters for helping me. I will not let her death be in vain.” Detectives investigating Tiahleigh’s death say they are treating her foster carers’ property as a “primary crime scene”. Det Insp Damien Hansen said police were searching the property at Chambers Flat for any evidence in connection with Tiahleigh’s murder, including her backpack and school uniform. Police began digging up the property on Friday, three days after Tiahleigh’s foster father, Rick Thorburn, was charged with her murder. His son Trent, 19, has been charged with incest, perjury and attempting to pervert the course of justice. Julene Thorburn, 54, and the family’s other son Josh, 20, have been charged with perjury and attempting to pervert the course of justice. Both are on bail and will face court next month. Julene had hired a lawyer before the arrests and provided information to police, Hansen confirmed. But he would not comment about whether Thorburn had access to any kind of medication or pills after reportedly attempting to overdose while in custody on Tuesday. The 56-year-old has been transferred to Arthur Gorrie correctional centre after spending two days in an induced coma at Brisbane’s Princess Alexandra hospital. Trent remains in custody after his bail application was denied by Beenleigh magistrates court, which heard he had allegedly sent a message on Facebook messenger that stated he had sex with Tiahleigh and was worried she might be pregnant. |
