At least eight people have been shot dead during a bank robbery in the Philippines.

Seven of the victims were employees of the bank in the town of Cabuyao, south of Manila, and one was a security guard, police said.

Their bodies were discovered when the bank failed to open on time in the morning.

Police said two security guards were missing and were suspected of involvement in the robbery.

Local police chief Ricardo Padilla said the victims were found on the floor of the Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation.

"They were murdered in gangland-style, each one shot in the head," he told Reuters news agency.

"We suspect a possible inside job because those behind this heinous crime killed all possible witnesses who could identify them."

The bank's vault was found open and empty, police said. It is not known how much money was stolen.
