The alleged offences, which reportedly involve a five-figure sum of money, are believed to be linked to Ms McGarry’s involvement with the group Women for Independence.
The organisation was set up in the lead-up to the 2014 Scottish referendum and with the SNP’s Glasgow Regional Association.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "On Tuesday September 27, a 35-year-old woman was charged in connection with alleged fraud offences.
"A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal."
