Re “Ex-Marine Says Superiors Hid Abuse With Lies” (front page, Sept. 30):

Apparently, despite reforms and regulations, much more needs to be done by the Marine Corps leadership to ensure that necessarily demanding training does not slide into abuse at Parris Island, S.C.

One concrete step would be to assign more officers to supervise recruit training platoons. Marine infantry platoons in regular line units are led by both lieutenants and noncommissioned officers. Recruit training deserves no less.
