Lochaber mountain rescue staff said on its Facebook page on Monday that the rescue was one of the “most difficult and technical” the team had been involved in.
It took 31 people and an ascent of nearly 2,000 ft, or 600 metres, to get to one of the climbers. The post continued: “This was a very technical exercise, locating the precise location of the casualty in cloud and in the dark on a huge face on very dangerous terrain.
“We would like to especially thank the RAF mountain rescue team, without their assistance and support we would have taken considerably longer to effect the evacuations. Finally, a very big public thank you to all the team members who took part on the rescue at considerable risk to themselves to save a life.”
The news follows an earlier incident this month when a man died after falling near the east gully of Aonach Mor, also in the Nevis range. |
