London Zoo has said it is “managing an incident” following reports that a gorilla had escaped from its enclosure and the public had been locked in. A gorilla has been recaptured after reportedly being shot with a tranquilizer dart following its escape from an enclosure at London zoo.
A spokesman said: “ZSL is managing an incident on ZSL London Zoo.” The zoo said earlier it was “managing an incident” amid reports that a gorilla was on the loose and the public had been locked in.
Scotland Yard said: “Police were called by security at Regent’s Park at 5.17pm to reports of an ongoing incident. Officers are there to support ZSL staff.”
The Met said the incident had now ended.
A zoo source suggested the gorilla had escaped into the “outer part” of the Gorilla Kingdom enclosure.
