A Royal Marine reservist has pleaded guilty to a string of firearms offences. A Royal Marine reservist has pleaded guilty to possessing an arsenal of weapons including an assault rifle, grenades and plastic explosives.
Martin Shannon, 43, had an arsenal of weapons including an assault rifle, a shortened shotgun, high explosive grenades, the Old Bailey heard. Martin Shannon, 43, pleaded to guilty at the Old Bailey to 15 charges relating to firearms and explosives.
Shannon, from Hythe in Southampton, also had a range of ammunition when he was arrested by the National Crime Agency. The court heard Shannon, from Hythe near Southampton, sold some of the weapons, which he had as a reservist at RM Poole naval base, Dorset.

Lawyers for Shannon have asked for psychiatric reports before sentencing, saying he may be suffering from post traumatic stress disorder.
A Ministry of Defence spokesperson said: "We take the security of weaponry very seriously and have robust procedures to deter and prevent losses and thefts which are constantly reviewed."
