One prisoner has died and two others have been injured at a prison in London, the Prison Officers Association has confirmed. One prisoner has died and two others have been injured in a stabbing at HMP Pentonville in London.
The injured inmates were taken to hospital with stab wounds after the incident at HMP Pentonville earlier. The injured pair, aged 21 and 30, were taken to hospital with knife wounds after the incident at about 15:30 BST.
No prison officers are understood to have been injured in the incident, the union added. The other man, who is in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the prison, the Met Police said.
The Ministry of Justice has been approached for comment but has not yet released a statement. A 34-year-old man has been arrested and is being held at a north London police station. Police officers are still at the scene of the stabbing.
Formal identification of the dead man has yet to take place. A post-mortem examination will be arranged in due course, according to the Met.
No prison officers are understood to have been injured in the incident, the Prison Officers Association said.
A Prison Service spokesman said: "Police are investigating an incident at HMP Pentonville.
"It would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage."
