Tribute to father-of-two killed after leaving crashed car on M3

The family of a man killed after getting out of a car following a crash on the M3 has paid tribute to him.

Tony Smith, 37, of Southampton died when he was struck by a Citroen Berlingo on the southbound carriageway shortly after 06:30 BST on Monday.

The father-of-two had got out of his car between junction 8 and Winchester services.

His family described him as "always happy to help others when they were in need".

Witnesses to the crash, which initially involved a Mitsubishi ASX 4 and a Skoda Superb, have been asked to contact police.

In a statement, Mr Smith's family said: "Tony was a loving son, brother, father and friend. He will be terribly missed by all his family, friends and work mates.

"In loving memory of one of the best men."

The drivers of the other two vehicles were uninjured.
