A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempting to abduct a teenage girl after a high-speed police chase through Formby and Southport. The driver of a white van reportedly approached a girl in Litherland at about 19:30 BST on Sunday. The van later drove towards a police car and an officer, detectives said. It was then allegedly driven on the wrong side of the Formby Bypass before being stopped in Southport at 20:15 BST. Officers used a device known as a stop stick, which is thrown across the road and has spikes to burst vehicles' tyres. The van was stopped outside the railway station on London Street. A 35-year-old man from Huyton was arrested at the scene and is being questioned by police. He was arrested on suspicion of attempted abduction, attempted serious assault of a police officer, dangerous driving, criminal damage and driving while over the drug-drive limit. |
