Polls in 49 states have closed and a close race is getting closer. Results from 37 states and the District of Columbia have been called by the Associated Press, allotting 197 electoral votes to Hillary Clinton and 216 to Donald Trump so far (270 are needed to win). Swing states Ohio, Florida and North Carolina went to Trump, leaving all eyes on Michigan and Pennsylvania. Both states are critical for a Clinton victory to be possible. Here’s what has happened so far: Virtually all of the polls have closed and eyes are on a handful of states as Donald Trump maintains a lead of 244 electoral votes to Hillary Clinton’s 215, per the Associated Press predictions as of 12.20pm ET. 270 electoral votes are needed to win.
