(25 days later) | |
Refugee and journalist Behrouz Boochani responds to news that he and his fellow Manus Island detainees could be resettled in the US. On Sunday the Australian prime minister, Malcolm Turnbull, announced the deal for the US to take an unspecified number of refugees from Australia’s offshore immigration detention regime. Turnbull also said other refugees would be offered 20-year temporary visas for Nauru. Boochani expresses concern for the men on Manus who have refused to present their refugee claims to Papua New Guinea authorities. It is understood about 30 men have refused to accept the PNG process. They face an uncertain future. | Refugee and journalist Behrouz Boochani responds to news that he and his fellow Manus Island detainees could be resettled in the US.
