Police have charged two teenagers following a burglary at an historic chapel in the Swansea valley.

A 14-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy have been charged with burgling Gellionen Chapel in Pontardawe with intent to cause damage in March.

They have been bailed to appear before Port Talbot Youth Court on Friday.

A 13-year-old girl and a 16-year old boy who were arrested have been given 'final warnings' and a 15-year-old girl was released without charge.

Gellionnen Chapel, parts of which date back to 1692, was burgled on the weekend of 8-9 March.

South Wales Police's Pontardawe sector Inspector Jeff Handley said: "The desecration of Gellionen Chapel had a profound impact on the community which is still being felt today."

The two teenagers given final warnings will have to go to court if they offend again in the next two years.

A final warning is given when children and young people accept they committed an offence.

It is recorded by police and is the last opportunity for the young person to stop offending before being taken to court.
