A BBC Crimewatch appeal over the murder of a County Londonderry farmer almost four years ago has generated fresh leads, a detective has said.

Patrick Devine, 51, was shot dead while eating his dinner at a remote farmhouse in the Sperrin mountains near Claudy.

No-one has been charged with his murder.

DCI Gary Crawford said they had received "lots of calls from local people giving us names of people who they suspect were involved".

"We especially want to speak again to one person with a local accent who rang up saying they had seen suspicious activity shortly before Patrick's death," he said.

Mr Devine was found slumped over his dinner in September 2004. He had been shot several times from close range.

New evidence was revealed during the reconstruction, and Mr Crawford said there was a £10,000 reward for information which led to a conviction.

He said they had gathered forensic evidence following the September 2004 killing.

"We are hopeful that developments in forensic science since then will lead us to the murderers," he added.
