The police also said following complaints from the family about an attack on the girl officers had set up an investigation and were in contact with Arsema. A Metropolitan Police statement said an allegation of assault and threats to kill against Arsema were made on 16 April in a McDonald's restaurant.

Simon Tesfaghiorgish, Arsema's friend, said: "I didn't know him but he had been harassing her. The mother told the police a number of times. They said she "was unaware of the incident and had no knowledge of it" when a safer schools officer spoke to her about it on 12 May.
"The police said they couldn't take any action. We are going to complain about this. "Despite this we continued to investigate the circumstances of the incident and Arsema's mother was subsequently contacted on the 19 May," the statement added.

Police are keeping an open mind about the motive for the killing, but they do not believe it was gang-related. Police officers have distributed leaflets on the estate in a bid to reassure people and telling them the killing is not gang-related or a stranger murder.
