Independent candidate takes SNP Angus Council seat

Independent candidate David Cheape has won a seat on Angus Council after a by-election triggered by the death of Provost Helen Oswald. Mrs Oswald had held the Carnoustie and District seat for the SNP, but passed away in October after a battle with cancer. Mr Cheape took the seat with 1,401 votes, with SNP candidate Mark McDonald in second place with 1,033. The Tories followed in third, with Labour fourth. Turnout was 30.2%. |
