Two children who were stabbed to death by their mother at their south London home have been officially named.

Shanjayan Navaneethan, five, and his four-year-old sister Sharani were attacked at their home in Carshalton on 30 May.

Their six-month-old sister was also stabbed and taken to hospital, where her condition is said to be improving.

Their 35-year-old mother was arrested and has been detained under the mental health act.

Her husband, aged 39, was also arrested but has been released without charge.

He has been bailed to return to a police station on an unrelated matter.

Shanjayan and Sharani died within 15 minutes of each other shortly after being taken to hospital.

A post-mortem examination at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children gave the cause of death as stab wounds.

An inquest is expected to open at Croydon Coroner's Court on Thursday.
