NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde to discuss cuts proposals NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde to consult on birthing plans
(about 11 hours later)
Scotland's largest health board is due to meet to discuss controversial proposals to close or cut some in-patient and maternity services. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde has voted to begin a consultation on changing birthing services at Inverclyde and Vale of Leven hospitals.
The consultation could result in some birthing units closing but the final decision will have to be made by Health Secretary Shona Robison.

Proposals due to be discussed include the possibility of ending in-patient care at the former Homeopathic Hospital at Gartnavel. The board is yet to vote on proposals for Lightburn hospital and the former Homeopathic Hospital at Gartnavel.
Closing Lightburn Hospital and birthing units at Vale of Leven and Inverclyde hospitals will also be considered. The closure of birthing services at Inverclyde Royal Hospital in Greenock and the Vale of Leven in Alexandria have been designated as "major service changes" because they could reduce accessibility for patients.
This means a decision has to be made by the Scottish government.
Under the current health board plans, women would give birth at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley and Glasgow maternity units.
